Registered Dietitian

Hey there!

Before we get started, let’s first talk about the word “dietitian.” Unfortunately for me, my job title, license, and professional credential all start off with the word “diet” – and this couldn’t be further from my preferred style of practice. So I’m going to refer to it as “nutrition therapy” from this point on because that feels much more authentic.

In my office – whether virtual or brick-and-mortar – we’ll be working on making changes to your relationship with food rather than your diet. As your nutrition care provider, I don’t consider it my job to tell you what, when, or how much to eat; instead, it’s my job to use what I know about human physiology and metabolism to help you read the unspoken cues your body is giving you and translate them into a language we both can understand and respond to.

Together we can learn what your individual body’s preferences are and how to honor them in a way that makes sense for your life. Owning a human brain and a human body requires a huge maintenance plan that doesn’t come written out for you, so together we will figure out what will go on the pages of yours…at least, when it comes to nutrition.

You can count on me for a direct, straightforward approach that also includes a fair amount of sarcasm, laughter, and copious amounts of compassion. We’re all just doing our best out here and I prefer to approach sessions as a fellow human rather than a professional. It is my goal to honor your own expertise in yourself and your needs in addition to including the expertise I have in nutrition.

I practice from a HAES (Health At Every Size)-informed lens and include topics of Intuitive Eating, body liberation, food freedom, joyful movement, and social justice in the care I provide. More simply put, I approach care from the perspective that there are a lot of factors that impact our food choices and our body’s shape and size and we need to hold space for all of them as we walk through this journey together.

Education and Experience

I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay and completed my RD training through Virginia Tech University. I have been a nutrition therapist since 2014 and have experience working in a variety of clinical settings and levels of care over that period of time.

I have specialty training in eating disorders and disordered eating and experience supporting the treatment of conditions such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD, celiac disease, diabetes, heart disease, GI dysfunction, and food allergies/intolerances. I also have extensive experience working with adolescents and families and extending support beyond 1:1 client care. My practice has included people of all ages and gender identities and a mix of different racial backgrounds, religious beliefs, and core values.

About me

In my free time you can typically find me tinkering around my house, binge-watching reality TV shows, searching for the best spot in town to get ice cream, and playing board games with my friends. I also love to travel and have visited 22 countries and 30 states (so far!).

It's worth noting that my dog, Dax, often accompanies me to the office and likes to make guest appearances on-screen during virtual visits. We’re both looking forward to meeting you!

Let’s Chat!

Free Discovery Call (15 min): Get scheduled for a FREE consultation, during which time we will work together to determine if we are a good fit for each other. If your insurance doesn’t cover nutrition services or if you prefer to self-pay for any reason we can also talk about what this could look like.

Initial Nutrition Assessment (60-90 min): The purpose of our first session is to gather information and lay the groundwork for a nutrition-therapeutic relationship. I will ask a lot of questions to better understand your health history, relationship with food and movement, current eating patterns, your individual goals of care, and to generally just get to know you as a person.  I’m sure you’ll have some questions for me, too!

Follow-up Sessions (45-60 min): After the initial session, we may meet weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly, depending on what your needs are. During these sessions, we’ll talk about what happened since last session, including what’s working or not, what barriers presented themselves, what victories you experienced, etc., and we’ll find teachable moments to apply nutrition education topics and utilize therapeutic skills.  Follow-up sessions will also include relationship-building, goal-setting, and lots of celebrating!
