How I got here:
Growing up I wanted to be a librarian. I have always loved books. Looking back, I don’t know how much the books had to do with it, actually. The idea of helping people feed their souls with knowledge and pleasure is similar to the work I do as a healer. Who doesn’t want to get lost in a distraction once in awhile?? But at the end of the day, we all have to face ourselves. And I have learned that the best way to do this successfully is to have a place to heal and mend the hurts in our lives. Maybe it is a divorce, loss of a significant person, anxiety, or depression. Maybe you are in the middle of a life transition (we all are!) and it is just plain hard. Maybe you are experiencing the world and feeling disheartened. Whatever it is, my office is a space for you to come and unload all of those thoughts and feelings in a nonjudgmental space.
My journey has been long and messy (whose isn’t?). I worked in juvenile corrections in Minneapolis for 7.5 years after graduating with my BA. In those 7.5 years, I realized that I was meant to be a healer. I returned to school and graduated with my MA, and proceeded on the journey to LPCC licensure all while maintaining my work at the detention center. Upon gaining licensure, I began looking for work in the field, landing at a nationally renowned Eating Disorder clinic, where I worked for 7.5 years in many capacities, including director, and therapist. I am a therapist and healer first and foremost but have also became a leader over time.
I have worked with many diverse populations. In the past I have worked in schools, as well as people’s homes. I have worked in residential settings, as well as outpatient clinics. My therapeutic philosophy is a feministic, systemic approach. I believe that while you may be experiencing the problem, all of the experiences and people around you have helped to shape that. It is in our work that we will bring awareness to your own internal power to change. You are stronger than you think, and I would love to help you gain that awareness.
Education/Licensure:
I received my BA from the University of St. Thomas, and my MA from St. Mary’s University. I have my Doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy from Northcentral University. I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) in the state of MN, and am also a board approved supervisor through the BBHT in MN.
